Mayor Marion S. Barry’s Summer Youth Employment Program Frequently Asked Questions
The 2018 Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program application will open on Friday, January 26, 2018.
To become a participant, please apply online at www.summerjobs.dc.gov and follow the instructions for setting up your youth portal as a new or returning user. Please apply using your own personal email address.
To be eligible for participation you must be between the ages 14-24 by the starting date of Monday, June 25, 2018.
The deadline to apply is Saturday, February 24, 2018. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
All potential participants must establish an email account, owned solely by them, to receive all correspondence regarding the 2018 MBSYEP. Emailed updates will include: the application status, information regarding your assigned work-site, instructions for selecting a method to receive your stipend and/or pay check, general program information and updates. In some cases you will also receive items thorough traditional mail.
Yes, past participants who wish to participate in the 2018 program must apply again this year.

Applicants can resubmit proof of residency at a MBSYEP eligibility event. Participants will be invited to an event once they have successfully completed the MBSYEP My Banking and W-4 sections in their youth portal.
The last date to provide certification documents to complete your registration is Saturday, March 17, 2018. Participants will be invited to an event once they have successfully completed the MBSYEP My Banking and W-4 sections in their youth portal. Youth ages 14-15 are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Youth ages 16-21 are allowed to work a maximum of 25 hours per week. Youth ages 22-24 are allowed to work a maximum of 30 hours per week.
All youth must pay taxes on their MBSYEP earnings. The rates of pay are: Youth ages 14-15 -$5.25 (per hour) Youth ages 16-21- $8.25 (per hour) Youth ages 22-24- $12.50 (per hour)($13.25 starting July 1, 2018)

Job transfers will only be approved for the following reasons pending receipt of proper documentation:
